Atlanta Celtics Storm the Rose City

Portland was in for a treat this past summer as Courtside Entertainment hosted the adidas Rose City Showcase. A territorial twist of basketball supremacy, representing 8 of the top AAU basketball programs in the country. The 2003 field included a varsity and rookie team from tournament director, Canaan Chatman and his classy Inner City Players program. Jeremy Lathan and Kevyn Green led the way for ICP with a combined tournament average of 42ppg 18 rpg and 15 apg. New Benson basketball coach and LEGENDS founder, Troy Berry gave Marty Leunen an opportunity and Jeremiah Dominguez acoming out party, with an overtime first round thriller that nearly sent the Atlanta Celtics home early. Reggie Guyton and his Portland Panthers validates the fact that there are ballers in "P- town", with a brilliant weekend of play from the dynamic duo, Josh and Seth Tarver.

On a national level, Seattle Rotary Select has a legitimate "Player of the Year" candidate in Bremerton Prep forward, Marvin Williams. Marv is a monster on the court, inside and out. At 6' 9" 240 lbs and a feathery 3 point stroke, he created matchup problems for eveyrone in the gym, except for the 6 NBA players who sat courtside for the weekend to witness the hype.
After loosing Lebron james to nike, 90 million and the NBA, the Oakland Soldiers were reloaded with kentucky-bound Tim Pierce. the 6' 7" athletic shooter walked away with MVP honors after averaging 43ppg for the tournament, after burying his dad 4 days prior, due to an unexpected death. The Houston Superstars, led by 6' 6" "pogo stick' Marshall Brown, put on a great show, with there up tempo defense and fast break offense. But the team to watch this weekend was Wallace Prathers Atlanta Celtics. Meet Dwight Howard 6' 10" 245 lbs, Josh Smith 6' 9" 225lbs and Randolph Morris 6' 11" 240lbs, all entering their senior campaigns of high school. Some experts feel that at least two of these guys(Howard and Smith) wont go to college. the scariest thing about this group, is a junior by way of Missouri, remember the name Brandon Rush. Recorded a tourney record of 24 dunks for the weekend. this 6' 7" Tracy McGrady clone, has already closed his college recruiting list. The Celtics took home the championship and an experience that they will never forget. I didnt even know there were some of us in Oregon, states a celtic player. "IF YOU DONT KNOW, NOW YOU KNOW!"
